UPDATE (December 19, 2017 12:10 p.m.): The child who died in a head-on collision in Shafter has been identified by the Kern County Coroner's Office.
Daniel Mancera, 7, was traveling with his mother, Gabriela Gutierrez Orozco, on Dec. 10th when they collided with another vehicle on Santa Fe Way south of Beech Avenue.
Mancera was transported to Valley Children's Hospital in Madera where he died on Dec. 12th, according to the coroner's release.
A postmortem exam will be conducted at a later time.

The woman who was killed in a head-on collision in Shafter over the weekend has been identified by the Kern County Coroner's Office.
Gabriela Gutierrez Orozco of Shafter was killed when her car collided with another on Santa Fe Way, south of Beech Avenue on Dec. 10 around 4:30 p.m.
Orozco, 30, was driving with her two children who were injured in the crash.
The driver of the second car was Angelica Gonzales, of Bakersfield, suffered major injuries in the crash. Gonzales, 28, had a 4-year-old girl in the car; police said she did not have any noticeable injuries.
A postmortem examination will be scheduled at a later time for Orozco, the Coroner's Office said.
Shafter Police are investigating the crash. They said drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been a factor in the collision.
