The CSU Bakersfield softball team won the WAC tournament on Saturday, defeating New Mexico State 1-0 in the championship game. New Mexico State was the #1 seed and had defeated CSUB in all three regular season matchups, but the Runners took down the Aggies twice in two days of postseason play.
Senior pitcher Amber Mills was working out of jams all afternoon for CSUB as New Mexico State left 15 runners on base. After two quick outs in the 7th, CSUB catcher Jo Larrios came to the plate and worked the count full. Then Larrios hit one just over the outfield fence in left to give the Runners the 1-0 lead. It was her first career home run.
Senior Sydney Raeber was the all-tournament MVP, and Jo Larrios and Amber Mills took home all-tournament team honors.
The Runners went undefeated in postseason play after finishing the regular season on a 6-game losing streak with an overall record of 13-31.
CSUB now advances to the NCAA Regionals; location and time will be determined tomorrow on selection Sunday.
