While Kern County will see above average afternoon highs, lows will fall in the 30's for much of the county for the week ahead. In the Bakersfield area, expect temperatures in the 50's to 60's during the afternoon.
Strong winds will start to increase Sunday night, with a Red Flag Warning in the mountain communities on Monday morning through Tuesday evening. This is where we will see elevated fire dangers due to gusty winds, dry fuels, and low humidities. As a low pressure drops Southward into the Kern County Mountains, gusts up to 55 mph will start to develop. Whereas, in Southern California gusts could reach up to 70 mph in some areas. Winds should start to decrease across the region going into Monday evening, however fire weather conditions will persist through Wednesday.
Air quality will shift from moderate to unhealthy for those sensitive groups starting on Monday, with an expected AQI of 102. However, expect to see good air quality in the greater Frazier Park area during this time.
