and last updated

Expect a cool Thanksgiving in Kern County, but temperatures will start to gradually warm this weekend and into next week. Seeing below average temperatures for the holiday, staying in those 50's for the remainder of the day!

A cold and dry air mass will prevail through Thanksgiving, but we will see mainly clear skies! We can expect frost and below freezing temperatures over much of the San Joaquin Valley and the desert communities tonight. Behind this air mass, we saw a cold front, which produced a period of locally strong gusts in the mountain and desert communities. Few locations reached up to 45 mph gusts. However, these winds have since diminished and a wind advisory that was put into place has since expired.

Temperatures in the San Joaquin Valley are expected to drop below the freezing mark for a few hours on Friday morning. A "freeze warning" is in effect for the Central and South SJV for late tonight and Friday morning. This will also be the case on Friday night through Saturday morning. A "freeze watch" has been issued for Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Air quality today will stay in the moderate range, with an AQI of 91. However, the Greater Frazier Park area will see good air quality, with an AQI of 42.
