Some local businesses continue the fight to stay open amid the COVID-19 pandemic. One restaurant is starting to see changes after we aired their story just over two weeks ago. Last time 23ABC spoke with Nuestro Mexican Grill they went from having 22 employees down to just three. However, since then they have seen a slight increase in customers. This allowed them to rehire a couple of their employees.

The restaurant averages over 100 customers on a normal day, but once the stay at home order went into affect, that number went down to 15 take outs a day. But Co-Owner of the restaurant, Jose Sanchez is seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. That number has now gone up to 50 customers a day. And although it has still been hard to keep up financially, Sanchez says it's all a learning experience. He said, “I live my life by learning. All the bad things are just experiences for me. This will pass. Everything always passes eventually. We just have to be strong and keep going.”

The restaurant is doing take outs every day from 11:30 a.m - 7:30 p.m. And when they do return to full service dining, Sanchez says it will be very different. They will cut down on tables to practice social distancing and follow all guidelines from public health.
