BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — We are days away from Super Tuesday, so 23ABC sat down with the candidates for District 1 Supervisor to hear what they had to say about the upcoming election.

David Fluhart, Phillip Peters and Daures Stephens are running to replace District 1 Supervisor Mick Gleason, who announced this year he will not be running for re-election.

Stephens, who is from the Kern River Valley and owns Southlake Cycle, said that public safety would be his focus and he would try to address the homicide rate.

Peters was born and raised in Northwest Bakersfield and is the district director for Supervisor Mick Gleason. He said he's worked in the oil and ag industry for most of his life.

Fluhart is a local cannabis farmer from Havila. He said that he will work to help Ridgecrest continue to rebuild and, if elected, he would ask for federal assistance and community involvement.

District one covers most of Northeast Kern County, Ridgecrest, the Kern River Valley, Glennville, Northwest Bakersfield and parts of the Southwest.
