In one of the closest races of Super Tuesday, incumbent T.J. Cox (D) will face off against David Valadao (R) in the general election on November 3rd for U.S. Representative for the 21st District.
In an unusual situation, Valadao was leading the statewide vote against Cox 55% to 35% with 66% of the precincts reporting. However, Cox was leading Valadao 43% to 41% in Kern County with 64% of the precincts reporting. The difference the result of the District extending beyond Kern County into Fresno, Kings, and Tulare counties.
Valadao issued the following statement: "I am honored to have earned the vote of so many voters across the Central Valley. We built a coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and No Party Preference voters throughout Fresno, Kern, Kings and Tulare Counties who are ready to have Congress start working for them again. From water to trade to the economy, everywhere I go voters want politicians to put aside the partisan fights and get to work on the issues that matter. That’s exactly what I plan to do. I look forward to earning voters’ support again in November.”
