BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The McFarland High math teacher arrested over the weekend on sexual abuse charges, did have sexual intercourse with a male student, McFarland Police Department confirmed.
On Monday, McFarland Unified School District sent out a letter to the public stating that Elvia Gonzalez has been placed on administrative leave following accusations that she sexually abused the student.
School officials said Gonzalez was arrested on Saturday, October 12 after the student showed the principal inappropriate and incriminating content on his cell phone.
In the letter, the district said the allegations are taken very seriously and they have worked with law enforcement to help them proceed with Gonzalez's criminal case.
