BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Minutes after the announcement that Joe Biden had chosen California Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate for the 2020 election, the responses began flooding in.

California Governor Gavin Newsom reacting on Twitter, stating, "Principled. Brilliant. Compassionate. Empathetic. Honest. The perfect choice for Joe Biden. That’s Kamala Harris. Let’s go win this."

Yet not every California representative agreed with the governor's sentiment. Kern County representative and House minority leader Kevin McCarthy responded to the news saying, "Kamala Harris wants to turn the entire United States into San Fransisco. Her radical agenda has been terrible for Californians, and it would be terrible for the rest of America too." He also issued a full statement, which you can read here.

The president firing off on Twitter with a video, almost immediately after the choice was announced. In the video's caption, it says, "Meet Phony Kamala Harris. With Harris as Joe Biden's ‘political living will,’ he is surrendering control of our nation to the radical mob with promises to raise taxes, cut police funding, kill energy jobs and open our borders."

Biden’s selection comes after weeks of vetting several candidates for the role, all of which were women because the former vice president vowed to run alongside a female prospect.

The Biden campaign said Harris and Biden will deliver remarks from Delaware on Wednesday.
