BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — Kern County Representative and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has added his name to a Texas lawsuit challenging election results in several states.

The suit from the Texas attorney general, Republican Ken Paxton, demands that the 62 total Electoral College votes in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin be invalidated. Legal experts dismiss Paxton’s filing as the latest and perhaps longest legal shot since Election Day, and officials in the four states are sharply critical of Paxton.

McCarthy is one of 126 other congressmembers to sign the document. President Donald Trump recently announced that his campaign will also join the case before the Supreme Court in Pennsylvania.

Many Republicans are signing onto the case even as some have predicted it will fail. The last-gasp bid to subvert the results of the election is the latest demonstration of Trump’s enduring political power even as his term is set to end.
